BELLSTECH HOSTS NUC ACCREDITATION TEAM

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeremiah Oludele Ojediran, RE (COREN) MNSE, with other members of Management, on Monday, 29 March, 2021, received the National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Team to Bells University of Technology, Ota. The Team was on Accreditation visit to the Information Technology Programme in the Department of Computer Science and IT.

The Vice-Chancellor in his welcome remarks thanked God for the safe arrival of the Team from their respective places.

He stated that there is a need and relevance for accreditation, being a peer review mechanism to ensure compliance to the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard as stipulated by the National Universities Commission (NUC), should not be seen as an inquisition. Accreditations, he affirmed, are aimed at adding value to the University system. To this end he said that the Deans and Heads of Departments concerned would cooperate fully with the Team.

The NUC Team lead by Professor Tunji S. Ibiyemi appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the University for the warm reception. He disclosed that this would be his fifth visitation to the Bellstech which he referred to as his ‘second home’. He also stated that Bells University had produced a former Executive Secretary of NUC in the person of Professor Julius Okojie and he said he looked forward to working with the concerned department.

The Registrar, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the NUC for their commitment to the growth of the University and the notable guidance that they give to the University system at large. With NUC as overseer, the Nigerian University system is set to grow in leaps and bounds he stated.

THE NUC EXIT MEETING . . .

At the exit meeting to mark the completion of the exercise, the NUC Accreditation Team Chairman commended the various improvements the University had made since his last visit. He praised the Skills Acquisition Program of the University and said he would recommend it to the NUC as a template, for nation-wide use. He also advised improvements in certain aspects observed by the Team but overall he stated it was a commendable effort by the school.

The Vice Chancellor in his appreciation speech expressed his gratitude to the Accreditation Team and promised to integrate the suggestions in the University.
